10 Surprising Health Benefits Of Eating 3 Bananas a Day

banana-mart-700103_640

Bananas are incredibly versatile fruits that can be used to make refreshing smoothies, add delicious flavor to a baked meal, or simply eaten on-the-go. That might explain why they are one of the world’s most popular fruits: Over 96 percent of households in the U.S purchase bananas at least once a month, according to this report.
So we love eating bananas. But is this obsession good for us?
The research says yes. Bananas have a lot more going for them than simply an affordable price and sweet flavor. Studies indicate that the magic number is three–by eating three bananas per day, you provide your body with about 1500mg of potassium, and loads of health benefits.
So what exactly are the benefits?
Here are 10 amazing health benefits of eating bananas every day:

1. Bananas lower high blood pressure.

Studies show eating as little as three bananas a day may lower your blood pressure significantly. A medium-sized banana has about 422 mg of potassium and is nearly sodium-free. The high potassium-to-sodium ratio helps to neutralize the blood pressure-rising effect of sodium in the diet.
So it would seem that your mom’s admonition to reach for a banana instead of that bag of crisps is very sound advice.

2. Bananas improve digestion.

Bananas are loaded with fiber, both soluble and insoluble. Fiber is an important nutrient in the body because it helps regulate the speed of digestion, slowing it down. Eating a banana will make you feel full longer and can also help with the problem of constipation.
No wonder bananas are often included in breakfast meals. They help you start your day energized and keep you satisfied longer.

3. Bananas improve cardiovascular health.

Eating foods high in fiber is good for the heart, and bananas are full of fiber. A high-fiber diet has been linked with a lower risk of both cardiovascular disease (CVD) and coronary heart disease (CHD). The soluble fiber present in banana is, in particular, associated with a decreased risk of heart disease.
healthy, balanced diet will provide the essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants your body needs–top it off with a banana or two for an extra 4 grams of fiber per fruit.

4. Bananas help create healthy cells.

Bananas are rich in vitamin B6, containing 20 percent of the daily amount required for adult intake. Vitamin B6 helps the body produce insulin, hemoglobin and nonessential amino acids necessary to create healthy cells. It also helps with the production of antibodies that fight infections.
Maybe we should have been saying it different all along: “A banana a day, keeps the doctor away.”

5. Bananas improve GI tract heath.

Since bananas are relatively easy to digest, they are considered non-irritating for the human gastrointestinal tract, or GI tract. In fact, bananas not only ease digestive strain, but also sooth the digestive tract and help restore lost minerals after diarrhea. That is why they are among the first solid foods introduced to babies.
This is also one of the reasons bananas make up part of the clinical BRAT diet – bananas, rice, applecause and dry toast – that dietitians use to treat acute diarrhea.

6. Bananas are rich in Vitamin C.

When you think of vitamin C, oranges and strawberries might be the first fruits that come to mind. But a full serving of bananas provides a whopping 15 percent of the daily requirement for this essential nutrient. Vitamin C is an important antioxidant that neutralizes harmful free radicals in the body. Free radicals are uncharged atoms, molecules or ions (the “bad guys”) that are constantly destroying cells in your body. Vitamin C also aids in keeping blood vessels healthy and produces collagen that holds muscles, bones and other tissues together.

7. Bananas improve athletic performance.

If you have ever wondered why many athletes love bananas, here’s the reason: Bananas boost the muscles and provide antioxidants and other nutrients naturally. According to a study at the Appalachian State University’s Human Performance Lab, consuming half a banana every 15 minutes during a cycling time trial test was as effective as drinking a carbohydrate matched sports drink every 15 minutes. No wonder Yohan Blake, the Jamaican Olympics sprinter, reportedly eats 16 bananas a day!

8. Bananas fight anemia.

Because bananas are high in iron, consuming them can stimulate production of hemoglobin in the blood and help fight anemia. Anemia is a condition where there is a decrease in the number of red blood cells or hemoglobin in the blood, leading to fatigue, paleness and shortness of breath.
Moreover, Vitamin B6 present in banana regulates blood glucose levels, which can also help those suffering from anemia.

9. Bananas suppress hunger pangs.

This happens not merely because eating bananas makes you feel full for longer, but also due to their pleasant smell. That’s right, the scent of bananas can apparently suppress appetite and hunger pangs! According to this study by Dr Alan Hirsch of the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago, smelling bananas when you are hungry can trick your brain into thinking that you’ve actually eaten them.
So, yes, bananas can help you lose weight.

10. Bananas lift mood and help you feel happy.

A medium-size banana provides about 27 mg magnesium. This mineral can help boost your mood and aid good sleep. Men and women need 420 mg and 320 mg of magnesium per day, respectively. If you’re low on magnesium, you’re likely to suffer from anxiety, irritability, depression and other disorders.
Since many of us don’t get enough magnesium in our diets, consider eating a banana next time you’re having a case of the 3 p.m. munchies. It will fill you up and leave you feeling positive.

Bonus non-health benefits

You should also know dried ground banana peels make fantastic mulch for seedlings and new plants in the garden. Bananas are also a perfectly safe and healthy treat for your beloved dog!
A final tick for the pro column: If you are dying for some pearly white teeth, rubbing banana peel on your teeth for about two minutes after you brush can contribute to a perfect smile.
But don’t take it from me. Try a few bananas today!

Natural Constipation Remedies You Should Know

Natural Constipation Remedies You Should Know

Natural ways to get rid of constipation are: Drink a lot of water, consume fiber rich foods, consume a good amount of fruits and vegetables, beans and legumes, molasses and honey, grapes and lemons, oregon grape or coffee, healthy oils like olive oil and soybean oil. Sit ups and other physical exercises are good for breaking down the waste in the intestines.
Constipation is one of the most common and easily noticeable signs that something is not right with the stomach, intestines, or general digestive system. Constipation is not a disease or illness as such, though it can be a symptom of other digestive tract disorders or infections. It is however something that occurs in people of all ages – but more common in elderly people.
Here are the best 10 methods of getting rid of constipation:
  • Water
As simple as this may sound, it remains the number one cure for constipation. Making sure that you consume food with a lot of water and also drinking excessive amount throughout the day would go a long way to help you to keep the bowel moving normally. Water should never be replaced with soda or other drinks. Pure, distilled, spring, or traditional tap water is the key.
  • Fiber-Rich Foods
Many of us spend a lot of money eating what is not beneficial to us instead of lesser amounts of money of quality grains. 6 ounces of grains like barley, cereals, bread, etc., are fantastic substances that help to keep the digestive tract and intestines free from any clog.
  • Fruits and Vegetables
Fresh fruits and vegetables are not just highly nutritious; they contain a lot of fiber and liquids that are beneficial to the entire digestive system.
  • Beans and Legumes
Rich in vitamins and proteins, any kind of edible beans well cooked or other legumes added to daily meals helps in eliminating constipation naturally.
  • Oils
Sesame seeds, olive oil, vegetable oil, safflower, soybean oil, etc., are great for curing constipation. They are natural and contain a very low level of fats that make them very useful for lubricating the intestines until the constipation is finally gone.
  • Go to the Bathroom as Necessary
One of the major causes of constipation is fighting the urge to go when nature calls. This stores up waste in the intestine, makes them harder, and creates more gas. Have a daily routine for bowel movement and go once you feel the urge – no matter what.
  •  Molasses and Honey
If you prefer laxatives for curing constipation, then go natural; molasses are nature’s own natural laxative; and mixed with natural honey, they do a great job in relieving constipation.
  • Grapes and Lemons
These are special fruits with high citrus acid contents which breaks down intestinal waste with ease. A dose of these natural fruits sure helps relieve constipation a lot.
  • Exercises
Sit ups and other such highly physical exercises are good for breaking down the waste in the intestines.
  • Oregon Grape or Coffee
Spicy foods play an important role in causing constipation, therefore Oregon grapes and coffee is considered good in resolving the issue. Trying black coffee or extracts from the roots of Oregon grapes or barberry breaks the chemical composition of the stool and softens it.
There are a lot of ideas and tips on how to cure it; while some recommend synthetic drugs, others prefer home remedies. Going with home remedies keeps you safe from a number of side effects that can be resulted by the usage of synthetic drugs.

How To Get Rid Of an Ingrown Toenail?

To Get Rid Of An Ingrown Toenail ?

Onychocryptosis, or what is commonly known as ingrown toenail is a painful nail disease in which, the nail grows cutting one or both sides of the nail bed. The result of ingrown toenail is the discharge of yellow fluid and growth of extra tissue on toe. One popular remedy is using an Epsom Salt soak, cotton and neosporin to get rid of this infection. You could also try other home remedies like apple cider vinegar, lemon and Hydrogen Peroxide.
We have all dealt with painful ingrown toenails at some point or the other. Onychocryptosis, or what is commonly known as ingrown toenail, is a painful nail disease in which, the nail grows cutting one or both sides of the nail bed. The result of ingrown toenail is the discharge of yellow fluid and growth of extra tissue on toe. I find them really painful and unpleasant. Here are a few natural remedies that I’ve found very effective for ingrown toenails.

Natural Remedy For Ingrown Toenails

This method will stop your toenail from growing into your skin. It can even prevent you from having a surgery to remove the painful ingrown toenail! Follow these instructions and you might get rid of your ingrown toenail in no time. Also, those with diabetes and who find this method painful should refrain from doing so:

Things You Will Need

Cotton ball, Epsom salt, a pair of tweezers, Neosporin, band-aid, nail-cutter, cuticle remover or something pointy and warm water.
  1. Soak your feet in warm water and Epsom salt. Repeat this for 15-30 minutes daily. This will help to soften the toenail and prevent the ingrown nail from becoming infected.
  2. Next, trim your toenail with extra care around the ingrown area. Cut the nail straight across, but not too much. Start with the edges of the toenail, protecting the swollen area. Remember to cut the nails from the sides and not from the middle as it can worsen the situation.
  3. Use a cuticle remover or something pointy to push the cotton under the toenail to prevent the ingrown toenail from coming back. Be careful not to push too hard, or you might hurt yourself! Do this daily, and apply fresh cotton to reduce risk of infection.
  4. Apply infection preventing ointment or neosporin to the affected area, and keep it bandaged.
  5. Let the toe get some air. Don’t wear socks or shoes and let your toe breathe for a while.
For preventing infection, make sure you change the cotton everyday. Your ingrown toenail should grow out in a few weeks!

Other Home Remedies For Ingrown Toenails

  1. Apple Cider Vinegar: This can be a very effective treatment for ingrown toenails. Either consume a spoon ofapple cider vinegar, or take it with a spoon of raw honey. Also, you could soak your feet in a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water, or apply this solution directly to the affected area.
  2. Lemon: Wrap the toe with a thin slice of lemon and with the help of bandage or gauze, leave it overnight. The caidity in lemon helps cure infection.
  3. Hydrogen Peroxide: It is a very powerful disinfectant, and helps keep the skin around the ingrown toenail soft. It makes it less painful and prevents infection. To apply, dilute hydrogen peroxide with water and soak your foot in it for 15-20 minutes. It should give you some relief.
You could also use white flower oil, Oregano essential oil, tree tee oil, lavender essential oil, and an antibacterial soap to help you cope with this condition.
